Impact

How is Punar creating impacts?

We bet you would like to know, so here are some facts...

Problem: Globally, an estimated 92 million tonnes of textiles waste is created each year and the equivalent to a rubbish truck full of clothes ends up on landfill sites every second.

Solution: Punar is bringing artisan homewares that are made from finest quality recycled yarn created by upcycling textile landfill waste. We are putting waste to good use and solving the problem of landfill waste.

Problem: 67% of handloom weavers in India are underpaid and work in poor conditions.

Solution: Punar is partnering with a social enterprise in India that upskills women and has employed over 80% women weaver. These artisans are paid fair wages which is 2 to 3 times more than average handloom weavers. Further, the weavers are working in a supportive environment focusing on ethical production of goods.

Problem: Fast production fabrics use toxic chemicals and large quantities of water. Some of the chemicals include toxic pesticides that are used to grow cotton for fabrics, chemical based fabric dyes and toxic waste water generated during from production process.

Solution: Our fabric dyes are natural and use zero chemicals. Yarn dying saves approx. 126,000 litres of water for every 100 meter fabric.

Problem: World Economic Forum identified textiles, fast fashion clothing, and its supply chain, as the planet’s third largest polluter releasing approx. 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 per year.

Solution: Punar is using handloom fabrics to create beautiful, functional and useful homewares. Handlooms don’t use electricity and we are stopping CO2 emissions through handloom production.
